This is our 9th weekend of running with one day cancelled. We are still going to line up classes and then see what Eric has in store. Mike was building a race course through the new trail last night. Saturday might be breezy with snow in the afternoon. Sunday snow may hang around and calmer.
I am not even going to comment on the weather this season. Every year is different and this one has certainly been that way. We got lucky with December storms and cold. We opened earlier than in the past and have had coverage to teach on. There have been years when we were opening this weekend. It has been a good year even if we missed dig out days where the Moms and Dads all bonded trying to find Pony under the snow. One thing I have seen is that SkyKids tough out bad weather to ski more than the Bumble!
PSIA testing this weekend. We need great instructors to keep teaching kids great things about this sport. This group has spent hours training with Frank. This is Finals Weekend. Good luck. You got this and thanks for your efforts.
The plan going into March
Be flexible. We want to stay open through the 15th. A huge amount depends on weather. If we melt down through the base, even big storms do not save us. Second variable is you. What do you want to do and what are you willing to help with to get open. You are the staff. If everyone is done, tell me. If not, tell me that.
Make it snow!
Buses and Rental Gear
This is the last weekend for buses. Drivers are off next weekend so bus kids, if we open, find a ride. Another issue is rental gear. If you are finished for the year please drop it off in the lodge. Make sure your name is on the return list. There is still a lot of season left and you can take Sky Tavern gear to Rose, Diamond Peak or even Utah to ski more. I will do the usual in April and bring a semi truck to four locations around the valley during one week to retrieve gear after skiing is done. Gives me a chance to talk to everyone and drive a borrowed semi. You can always bring our stuff back to the lodge. Please don't return our gear to Bobos even if it is just the poles you borrowed from us. Happens every year and I buy the poles we lose.
The National Ski Area Association came out with recommendations that echo everyone else.
These include:
Regular hand washing with soap (for at least 20 seconds) or alcohol-based solution
Remain three feet (1 metre) away from anyone who is coughing/sneezing
Covering coughing or sneezing with a tissue or elbow (not your hand)
Avoiding touching of eyes, nose, or mouth with unwashed hands
Limiting contact with people who are sick, and staying home if you are sick.
Sky Tavern 2021 Passes on Sale NOW!
Adjust past Sky Tavern passes to inflation and they have been the same price for generations. Now we have the area for the next 50 years we need to put some money into it starting with a replacement lift for Rocco at $180,000. We have just a little increase, less than lunch at McDonalds. Get with Lythia soon, before Stella's little sister shows up, and set up payment plans if you want. Break the payments down from now until December and be good to go next season. Click the picture to purchase or see the front desk.
Sky Tavern still needs to "tell the story". We need your pictures of the season. Please send them to or I will give you a flashdrive for big files. Remember that over 50% of the budget comes from fundraising and telling the story and showing the kids is a huge part of that. The good, the bad and the ugly all go into story telling.
Diamond Peak has deals for pass holders from other resorts. Why your Sky Tavern pass says "Season Pass".
