GO. It is winter. One inch of snow overnight. Blowing a little and snowing. The road was a bit slippery and the internet seems to be powered by a rowing machine since it is soooo slow. The entire grooming crew was out in multiple shifts last night, all night. Ski it.
Lots of skis went home in the wrong car and more left on the snow and now in Lost & Found. Mark your skis, please. Come to the tune room and get your stuff.
Parking will be tight. The upper lot will have Military to the Mountains participants parking. This is a huge group of veterans that have been at Sky for two days learning to ski, some using adaptive equipment. Park tight and there will be restrictions on upper lot parking. These vets deserve our thanks and cooperation. And some really fly in sit-skis, so watch out!
There have been some comments and concerns about the morning opening, this year compared to last. We are not doing the opening ceremony, flag raising with the National Anthem, this year because we need to distance from each other and that is the only reason. No political statement or agenda, just distancing from one another.
I didn't want the large group in one spot we have had in the past. I want classes organized over the WHOLE base area during a larger amount of time. Instead of ringing a bell and everyone running to class at once, spread out by distance and time, please. Sorry, but being a bit vague about a start time was part of the plan.
Webster and Rocco will be running before class. Use them to get to your class spot. As soon as a class gets together, head off and give the space to other kids and instructors.
Believe me, the second the government says groups are cool you will hear Jimmy Hendrix doing the Star Spangled Banner followed by Home Means Nevada. William, Izzy, and Stella will still be fighting over who is raising the flag. I miss this tradition we started.
Does anyone have another answer? Find me. This is a big deal.
On Sunday at 3, Mike from Project Discovery, our neighbors, will open his ice pond at the end of the parking lot to teach kids hockey. He has skates and sticks. No charge, just fun. 3 PM start. He needs the ice to freeze up and get ready. Stay off the ice until then. He gets a little touchy about this. Go try it.
